Traumatic Brain Injuries, Concussion, Head Trauma, Headache, Head Pain, Post-Concussion Syndrome, Traumatic Brain Injury, MTBIMild traumatic brain injuries (MTBI) generally occur as a result of a violent jolt or blow to the head or body. A temporary dysfunction of brains cells may happen. If someone has ever had a concussion, then they have had a mild traumatic brain injury. MTBI’s do not affect everyone equally. One event that causes this in a person may not cause it in another person. Many times it depends on how hard the person was hit, where he was hit, and similar factors.

One important fact to realize is that a person does not have to lose consciousness to have had an MTBI or concussion. He may simply feel confused, disoriented, or dazed. Here are some symptoms that may occur in a person suffering from a mild traumatic brain injury:

  • Changes in sleeping patterns
  • Depression or anxiety
  • Odd taste in the mouth
  • Moodiness
  • Speech problems
  • Ringing in the ears
  • Changes in vision (blurriness)
  • Coma
  • Light and sound sensitivity
  • Nausea and/or vomiting
  • Extreme tiredness or feeling drowsy
  • Problems thinking, remembering, or concentrating
  • Unusual, frequent headaches

These symptoms may not show up immediately after the trauma. They can take months or even years to affect the injured person. This shows how important it is for someone not to ignore a blow to the head or body, thinking it will just heal itself. He may not be aware of the changes that are taking place within the brain. A misalignment that may have occurred at the time of the trauma may be slowly wreaking havoc on the entire body. What can be done?

Upper Cervical Chiropractic Care Can Help with MTBIs

At Vital Life Wellness Center, we examine a person’s neck to see if they have a misalignment in either of the top two bones of the vertebrae. A misalignment here can lead to pressure being put on the brainstem, hindering the brain and body from communicating properly. Once this is corrected, the body can often begin to heal itself naturally. Any negative effects caused by the mild traumatic brain injury may become a thing of the past.
