Neck injuries can happen when least expected. A person may be rear-ended while sitting at a stop light, he may trip and fall, or he may be hit in the head during a sports game. Any injury to the head or neck can lead to migraine headaches. These headaches are disabling and can cause such intense pain that the person can do nothing more than rest in a dark room.
Doctors and scientists are unable to pinpoint why migraines happen, thereby, making them nearly impossible to treat correctly. They may recommend seizure medicine. However, seizures and migraines, while similar, are not the same condition. These medications often bring unwanted and harmful side effects and do not produce the desired results for all. Those who are suffering from migraines due to a neck injury may wonder if they will ever get relief. If this sounds familiar, keep reading. We have good news.
Neck Injuries and Upper Cervical Chiropractic
As mentioned, it does not take a major injury to cause a problem in the neck. Even straining your neck or holding the phone between the ear and the shoulder can be enough to cause damage. Sometimes patients are able to recognize what caused the problem to occur, but often they are not even aware of what damaged their neck.
I begin to examine my patients by taking a closer look at the vertebrae of the upper neck. The C1 (atlas) and C2 (axis) are more susceptible to misaligning that the other bones of the neck. Using a specific series of x-rays, I can determine exactly where the misalignment lies and then work with my patients to correct it.
I do not force or crack the spine to realign it. I use a gentle touch that is scientific in nature to allow the bones of the neck to realign themselves. The body’s natural healing properties are then allowed to take over and heal the damage done to tissue and muscle, keeping the bones in alignment. Communication to and from the brain and body are restored back to normal, and many see their migraines ease up. Some have even seen them go away completely in as little as one or two adjustments.
