Posture, Proper Posture, Back Pain, Back Pain Relief, Back Ache, Lower Back Pain, Lower Back Pain ReliefHow often does anyone really think about their posture? When considering how healthy someone is, does posture play a role? Poor posture can be the reason behind breathing issues, neck pain, back pain, and many other health related problems. Posture, both while sitting and standing, is vital to a person’s well-being.

Having poor posture is something a person can just get used to. Slouching while sitting or standing may actually become more comfortable that having proper posture. This is dangerous, because the more comfortable we get in a bad position, the harder it can be to correct it.

Office Jobs Create Bad Posture

Using a computer and sitting at a desk all day are a recipe for improper posture. These types of jobs are considered high-risk when it comes to a healthy spine. It is common to hold the neck at the wrong angle while typing, talking on the phone, filling out paperwork, or looking at a computer. It is important to remember that the head should never be in front of the shoulders. Rather, it should be located above and in line with them. The more a person looks down at a computer screen, the more instability can be seen in his shoulders, he has more curving of the lumbar spine, his hips tend to tilt forward, and he may have a number of other musculoskeletal issues.

Steps to Taking Control of Posture

  • Be supportive. Use lumbar support in the office chair.
  • Get into ergonomics. Chairs, keyboards, and even convertible desks to help a person stand during part of the day are all readily available.
  • Break it up. Do not sit for longer than 45 minutes at a time. Get up, take a stroll around the office, take a bathroom break, or get a drink from the water fountain.
  • Move it. Exercise and proper stretching can all contribute to proper posture. Keep the body strong and limbered up.

Upper Cervical Chiropractic Care and Posture

Another great idea is to make regular visits to an upper cervical chiropractor. By keeping your spine in healthy alignment, proper posture will come naturally. Proper posture leads to a happier, healthier person!
