An auto accident can leave a person with damage long after it is over. A case study was reported in the Journal of Upper Cervical Chiropractic Research. It was about a 45-year-old woman who had a number of injuries in her past. When she was 15, she incurred head trauma by diving headfirst into a shallow pool. She suffered 10 automobile accidents over the next 25 years. She was then diagnosed with fibromyalgia by her medical doctor. She endured another trauma 5 years later when she fell down a flight of stairs. Her symptoms began to intensify. She complained of the following:
- Feeling numbness in her fingers
- Having worsening migraines
- Continuous neck pain
- Sciatica
- Depression
- Right knee pain
- Back pain in the upper and lower region
She was taking a number of pain medications just to make it through the day. Such things as Vicodin, Soma, and Flexeril were all too familiar. She had also visited 5 general chiropractors. While these things gave her some temporary relief, she was very limited in what she could do. Her injuries caused her to be unable to perform her daily routine. Things like climbing stairs, walking more than 20 feet, and swimming were impossible for her. She needed to use a wheelchair just have enough energy to get some necessary things accomplished and not tire out before they were completed.
Repercussions from Auto Accidents can Be Helped
When she began visiting an upper cervical chiropractor, it was discovered by using specialized x-rays that she did have a misalignment in her upper neck vertebrae. A gentle technique was used to correct her misalignment. After a short time of receiving adjustments, she reported that not only her fibromyalgia went away, but almost all of her other symptoms had decreased or went away as well.
